“Before working with Laura, I was always so confused and upset because I didn’t understand why my son cried a lot, bit himself, hit us, banged his head, pinched, scratched, and pulled hair. He was hurting himself and others! Getting him ready for school was a nightmare. I actually thought I was having a nervous breakdown! I would cry everyday from being hurt physically and emotionally. When behavior consultation with Laura was suggested by my son’s case manager, I decided half-heartedly to try again even though we had tried a behavioral service before with a different agency and it wasn’t effective. During my first appointment with Laura, she talked about my son’s strengths and said, “Hopefully, he can eventually wash dishes.” I thought at the time that there is no way he can wash dishes. I’m glad I decided to continue to work with Laura, implementing data sheets, a positive behavior support plan, and therapeutic listening at home. Laura also collaborated with my son’s Occupational Therapist regarding several other sensory interventions: brushing, a swing, therapy balls, etc. Laura worked with family and in home staff to make sure that everybody was on the same page and working together. He has learned a lot after working with Laura for 3 years! He can get dressed in the morning with minimal assistance from adults, he’s not crying/hitting/biting like he used to, and with hand over hand support he is washing dishes! Everyone that comes into my home can see the positive effects that my son’s behavior consultation services have had on me and my family. Laura worked primarily with my 11 year old son (who was 7 when services began) and her suggestions also helped with his older brother. We thank God that Laura came into our lives – she was a blessing we never expected.”

“I feel better because I’m not getting angry a whole lot, I’m calming down. I like that I get to work with people now, and people want to talk to me.”
25-year old gentleman upon "graduating" from services
“Laura offered her services to a young man that presented as intriguing but extremely and sporadically aggressive. Laura began instituting systems that made the individual’s daily schedule conducive to harmony and tranquility. She also educated the staff to calming techniques that could diffuse an active situation or avoid a crisis altogether. The individual’s quality of life has drastically improved due to her expertise and interventions.”

“Thank you SO SO much for the tools and training you’ve given me, my husband, and the day support program. This is making life so much better. We will always value the time we spent with you!”

“As a mother, I worry about my 29 yr. old son. As a mother, I know that at school or other settings where there are multiple kids/adults, that good and bad behaviors are learned. Now compound that worry four-fold because my son is dually diagnosed! He is diagnosed with Intellectually Disabilities, is on the Autism Spectrum, and also has Bipolar Disorder. Through the years, after multiple psychiatric hospitalizations, residential schools, and group homes, my son has developed very maladaptive ways of dealing with frustration. He learned “trigger words” to yell at others when he is angry. He will kick holes in walls. He destroys his belongings. And when REALLY angry he bites his arm. Laura was able to come in and evaluate my son and his environment with real accuracy. She developed an outstanding positive behavior support plan! She provided ongoing staff training and recommended complimentary ancillary services such as occupational therapy to evaluate his sensory needs. Now that his behavior plan is in place with staff who understand the power of a positive behavior plan, he is making great progress. The frequency and duration of behavioral outbursts have dramatically decreased. Laura brings outstanding knowledge and compassion to her clients. I would highly recommend Laura to any family or facility that is invested in improving the life of their child/resident.”
